Birth of Lord Ganesha
Adorned with intricate patterns of traditional painting styles of India such as 'Kalamkari', ' Pichwai' and ' GOND' , this painting , from left to right sequentially depicts the mythological story of birth of lord Ganesha. 'Mata Parvati' makes an earthen human shape and bless the same with life. While guarding the house of Mata Parvati , the boy obstructs the entry of Lord Shiva into the house resulting in severing of his head by Lord Shiva. On realising his mistake, lord Shiva requests Lord Vishnu to bring the head of any animal in the Northern direction. Lord Vishnu cuts the head of baby elephant resulting in lord Ganesha taking rebirth as human with elephant head. Hence, Lord Ganesha is also referred to as 'Gajanan' which means 'the elephant headed God'.
